EastEnders favourite Hev pegged it at the hands of Ben Mitchell in 2012 and Cheryl, 49, took to Twitter to suggest age still can't shake the character off.

She wrote: "Still think it is amazing that 3 years on after Hev's death she still stays fresh in peeps minds I am humbled by peeps ever loving reaction [sic].

"But it would also be nice for directors /casting peeps/producers 2 c Cheryl Fergison the actress & take a bold leap ! Xxx thanks supporters! [sic]."

Cheryl went on to hint that, while she's being offered unpaid work, she's struggling to earn money through acting.

She said: "U spend ur life training to be the best in ur field you spend ur life self employed and still peeps expect u do everything 4 nothing ? [sic]."

Dismissing any claims that her tweet was directed at charities she works for, Cheryl quickly added: "U know I do everything I can to support charities as I know how important they are & what they mean 2 peeps it's hard 2 respond 2 everyone [sic].

"So many worth causes trying 2 get there charity heard… I understand but please also c we can't support u all as much as we would love 2 [sic]."

Cheryl joined BBC One soap EastEnders in 2007, and played Shirley Carter's best friend for five years.

Since then she's had roles in Doctor Who, Little Britain and 'Allo 'Allo!
