Another day, another man telling women how or how not to dress/act/live. This time the man in question is Floyd Mayweather Jr, professional American boxer, undefeated world champion and now confirmed sexist. Mayweather posted the following to his Instagram account on Friday:
‘How a female dresses is her advertisement. If a female shows half of her body, she’s asking to be disrespected. If she dresses classy, expect to be treated like a lady. How you’re addressed lies on your attire. Sexy is a spirit, not an outfit.’Bottom of Form
Almost the most depressing part of this statement is that some people are telling Mayweather he’s the man and that they appreciate hearing his truth. Others are criticising it, rightly, with one commenter, Iamvannalee, saying:
‘Decency is in your CHARACTER not in what you choose to cover your body with… A REAL man will show respect regardless.’
Mayweather also gained criticism last month when he told T.I during a fight to ‘control his b*tch’ when referring to his wife Tiny. After his May 4th fight in Las Vegas, T.I came to a party at Mayweather’s mother’s house, where he had some choice words for the boxer. Mayweather later apologised for the outburst, saying:
‘I do apologise to Tiny because she cool people, man.'
He also came under fire in May, when he publicly accusing his former fiancé Shantel Jackson of aborting their twins on Instagram.
