The scene was reminiscent of Princess Diana’s appearance on those same steps almost exactly 31 years ago (June 22 1982), alongside Prince Charles showing the world Prince William for the first time.
William joked that the Royal baby needed to be taught about tardiness after keeping the world waiting
Just like Diana, who wore a green polka dot dress, Kate Middleton opted for a light blue bespoke dress by British designer Jenny Packham.
However unlike Diana and Charles, who left the hospital in a chauffeur driven wagon headed to Kensington Palace, William chose to drive the black 4x4 himself, having strapped the newborn safely in the back with Kate by its side.
William drove the car to Kensington Palace with the Royal baby and Kate Middleton in the back
The new family will spend the first few days of the baby’s life in Kensington Palace, and are then thought to travel to the Middleton residence.
