The presenter has opened up about needing to detach from social media when she's feeling low

Ever feel like social media is starting to take over your life? Well, it's seemingly no different for TV star Fearne Cotton, who has spoken out about giving Instagram a rest when she's feeling down.

Fearne, 36, has previously opened up about suffering from depression and also having a panic attack last year, and now she's spoken out about how she deals with it.

She told *Stella *magazine; "Social media is both a dark and brilliant thing for mental health."

“If I’m feeling down I won’t go on it because it’s nearly impossible not to compare yourself unfavourably to others and to feel a bit down. I only scroll through when I’m feeling happy."

We don't think that's bad advice!

She added "If I feel down I have a social media detox for a while. You have to remember you’re not looking at people’s real lives but just edited highlights of it.”

Fearne also spoke about a panic attack that she suffered last year.

"I was driving on a motorway and my chest began to tighten and I felt like I was going to black out. I pulled over and had to be driven home. There was a lot going on in my life, with family members becoming ill, and I was just becoming exhausted from plate-spinning."

But Fearne insists that it is manageable, if you know your triggers and how to deal with them. She said; "I still have my depression triggers, but I now know how to handle them".

We admire Fearne for speaking out and sharing her social-media-dodging tips!
