The former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas, who played Jason Grimshaw for 15 years, has reportedly spilt from long-distance love Lara Martin after struggling to make things work.

Ryan moved to London after he bowed out of the ITV soap earlier this year, so the 800-mile trip to go and see Edinburgh-based Lara really took its toll.

Despite trying desperately to make things works, a source close to the couple told The Sun:

“Ryan and Lana really tried hard to find time for each other, but they both lead busy lives and became more and more distanced from each other – literally.

“It’s a shame but it’s totally amicable. Lana was there to help him adjust to life after Corrie.

“He’ll always be grateful for that.”

However, it’s not all doom and gloom for the renowned ‘bad boy’ as the source added that he’s going to enjoy his new-found freedom.

A source said: “He’s enjoying having more creative freedom and is looking forward to a few upcoming auditions.”

This the second time Ryan’s hit headlines this week. The actor caused furore by tweeting during ITV documentary 9/11: Truth, Lies and Conspiracies, reigniting a debate that US intelligence services has advance knowledge of the Al-Qaida co-ordinated attacks that took place 15 years ago (11/09/2001), killing almost 3,000 innocent people.

He wrote (then later deleted): “I hope the truth comes out one day.”

He was quickly hit with a barrage of criticism from his followers, blasting him an ‘idiot’ and ‘disrespectful’ for buying into the conspiracy stories.
