Liam, who plays Dan Spencer in Emmerdale and Nicole, who plays infamous McQueen mum Myra in Hollyoaks, relayed their decision to the media in a joint statement - adding that they would remain close for the sake of their kids.
‘It is with much sadness that we confirm the end of our marriage, though our family unit remains strong. We’ll always love and respect each other and are united by our children and family remaining at the centre of our lives,’ the statement read.
According to a source close to the pair, they plan to remain living together for the foreseeable future, as they enjoy the last few years of their children being at home.
Despite many assuming they met on the showbiz circuit, Liam and Nicole actually crossed paths as trainee teachers at Tameside College in Manchester during the 90s.
They remained together as they made the break into acting, and had one child together - Ben, 14 - while Nicole has a daughter Gemma from a previous relationship.
