When you think of pin-ups, you think of the 1940’s and the Golden Age of Hollywood, where it became popular culture for models and actors to be idolised and therefore “pinned-up” on walls.

And when you think of pin-ups, you mostly think of girls too, right?

Well for this Emmerdale character, they’ve certainly gone against the stereotypical pin-up.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, John McArdle – who plays Ronnie Hale – revealed that his heavily featured storyline about former lover Lawrence White has become so popular, that they feature in a gay bar in China.

We bet you didn’t see that coming!

Some might recognise John from his Brookside days, but the actor has recently joined the Emmerdale cast as down-to-earth plumber, who becomes suspected of being Chrissie White’s biological father.

He told Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid: “You’ve got 2 older gay men, in the 60s it was illegal to be gay, and [Lawrence] had aversion therapy to stop him being gay which is quite barbaric.

“That has caused this character total confusion of his sexuality. Because of what you’ve been through, you should talk about it.”

John explained that a friend of his works in China and apparently Ronnie and Lawrence are pin-ups in a bar in Shanghai.

Good Morning Britain airs on ITV, weekdays from 6am.
