McBusted star Matt, 31, spent time in The Priory in 2005 for alcohol abuse, and again in 2006 for an addiction to cannabis.

He and TV presenter Emma, 38, had only known each other for a few months when he was first admitted, but she insists she didn’t even think about leaving him.

Speaking to Fearne Cotton for her new show Fearne and McBusted, Emma said: “He went to rehab when I’d known him for three months. We hadn’t known each other for very long and I was kind of in this whirlwind with him.

“You don’t think about it, then more time goes along and he went in again.”

Emma, who married Matt in 2008 and has two children with him, burst into tears as she explained the situation to 32-year-old Fearne. “This isn’t a kid that needs a couple of weeks’ break, it’s someone who genuinely has a problem.

“I’m not going to leave him because he has a problem. You stick together and get through it.”

Matt is now clean and, although his lifestyle isn’t as exciting as it used to be, Emma said she wouldn’t have him any other way. She added: “He’s very boring. I’ll take boring over the alternative. I’ll take the tattoos and the motorbikes over all the other stuff.”
