When most of us break up with a boyfriend, it can be hard to keep our mouths shut. From ranting over the injustice of it all to sobbing your heart out, being vocal is often a means of finding some comfort when it comes to heartache.

But Harry Potter star Emma Watson took a completely different approach following a recent break up. She opted to stop speaking completely.

She explained to Vogue UK: “I felt really uncomfortable, even before my relationship ended, I went on a silent retreat, because I really wanted to figure out how to be at home with myself.”

Emma, 25, took some time out at a retreat in Canada’s Rocky Mountains after splitting from ex boyfriend Matt Janney in November last year.

Despite her recent bad luck, Emma insists that her global fame hasn’t affected her private life.

She even finds the suggestion that men would be affected by her success ‘patronising’.

Emma explained: “I just think it's very patronising towards men. It undermines them.”

The Bling Ring actress now works for the UN with the HeForShe campaign, wowing the world with her inspirational feminist speech last year.
