After 10 years in the role, Jake Wood has revealed that he has been replaced as the voice of the Geico Gecko.

And he really isn’t happy about it.

Taking to Twitter to announce his disappointment, the EastEnders actor wrote emotionally: “Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is the new voice of the geico gecko.

“10 years undone in an instant.”

Cue OUTRAGE from his fans…

Jake retweeted a lot of the complaints into his own Twitter feed, and even got involved with the discussion himself on Twitter.

Revealing WHY they had cut him from the ads, Jake explained that it had literally boiled down to something as simple as money.

He said: “Hi. GEICO sacked me because I refused a huge pay cut.

“Nice huh?”

He later added: “Help me @TheTweetOfGod @geico have replaced me as the voice of @TheGEICOGecko after 10 years.

“Is nothing sacred?”

Anyone else have a feeling that the public outcry might just persuaded Geico to bring Jake back into the recording studio?

After all, the actor is currently on a year-long break from EastEnders, as his character Max Branning languishes in prison for a murder he didn’t commit, so he HAS the time on his hands.

Can you accept the new voice of Geico the Gecko?
