Paul Mason became obsessed with former EastEnders actress Brooke Kinsella, and began following her to public events and leaving rambling messages on her answering machine.

The serial stalker also sent Brooke numerous gifts, turned up at her place of work - once getting close enough to hug her - and sent the actress numerous text messages referring to her as his 'pumpkin'.

The messages included: "Your wedding dress is ready pumpkin" and "Pumpkin, I will be coming down Saturday to see you and the kids" - in reference to the True Stars Academy, her performing arts school for children in Hoxton, east London.

The 40-year-old even visited the grave of Brooke's brother Ben, who was stabbed to death in 2008 at the age of 16.

When Mason was arrested on April 10 last year, police found a poster of Brooke on his bedroom wall and a series of hand-written love letters on his bed.

Brooke, who gave evidence from behind a screen, told Bromley Magistrates court: "I had been given a warning from the Home Office about him which really frightened me.

"The whole thing was just really worrying. Without having been told by the police to be vigilant I might not have been so worried about it."

She continued: "When I saw the message 'you will be my wife' it really shocked me. It was frightening.

"I felt really very threatened by his messages and the whole thing was escalating before me. That was what worried me the most."

In a victim impact statement, the 31-year-old - who now works as an anti-knife campaigner with the Ben Kinsella Trust - said: "I never know when he is going to turn up. I work with young people...I have to be extremely cautious.

"I don't know what he's capable of. I feel anxious about giving evidence."

As he was jailed for 26 weeks Mason declared "I don't give a sh*t".

He was also given a restraining order banning him from contacting Brooke, to which he responded: "A restraining order wouldn't be a problem, I want no contact with her - she's not to contact me."
