Anyone who watches BBC One’s EastEnders knows that, in Walford, people very rarely get their happy ever after.

From serial killers to love rats, there’s always someone lurking in the shadows to make life truly miserable…

But there’s no point denying that it’s these powerful stories that make us love the soap so much.
