The 51-year-old has played Alfie since 2002, but it was alleged that the former pub landlord would be leaving the Square for good.

However Shane has rubbished the claims, with a spokesperson for him telling Digital Spy: "Shane will be returning to EastEnders. In fact, we already have some dates lined up."

They added: "My client Shane Richie has always said that he would return to EastEnders. Why wouldn't he? It's his second home, and he loves it!"

Alfie and his wife Kat recently left Walford, after winning the Lottery, and were believed to be heading for Spain.

It was later confirmed that Kat and Alfie will star in their own spin-off series, which will take place in Ireland.

Shortly before their departure, Kat learned she has a secret son after she gave birth to twins when she was just 14.

Alfie also received the life-changing news that he has a brain tumour, something his wife is unaware of.

While we can't wait for the Kat and Alfie show, it's a relief to hear that they'll hopefully be back on the Square for good one day!
