Ruth Langsford reveals what keeps the magic alive in her relationship, how she stays looking so good and her obsession with Dancing on Ice
She’s one part of the nations favourite couples, presenting This Morning together every week and living their married life though the public eye, so what is it that keeps Ruth and Eamonn Holmes’ relationship so strong?
“I’ve learnt that ‘we’ time is the new ‘me’ time,” Ruth explains. “We try to do things just us two – taking the phone off the hook, opening a bottle of wine and just snuggling up and having a chat.
'Sometimes we go to the cinema and have a bit of a kiss and cuddle in the back row'
“Sometimes we go to the cinema and have a bit of a kiss and cuddle in the back row. I’ve discovered it’s all about connecting with your partner which can sometimes be forgotten.”
Ruth is fronting the new Bold campaign to launch ‘Snuggle Up’ – encouraging couples all over the UK to pledge to reclaim their snuggle time.
“If Eamonn sees that I’m running myself ragged he’ll be quite persistent that I take a break and we spend time together,” Ruth, 50, explains. “We try and arrange date nights which I think are really important for couples to do.”
Ruth and Eamonn, 51, have an eight-year-old son, Jack, together. Being a busy working mum Ruth admits she sometimes struggles to keep herself looking glam all the time. “I’m aware of the pressures of looking good but I try not to let it get to me. Being on the TV people are going to be looking at what I’m wearing, what my hair looks like and how my wrinkles are holding up. I do worry that people might be disappointed if they see me in the ‘real world’ but most people don’t expect me to be glamorous all the time.”
But despite the on-going pressure to look good, Ruth is adamant that she’ll never consider botox: “I’m not saying that I would never have cosmetic surgery, I certainly haven’t had any yet and I certainly wouldn’t put any needles in my face,” she explains. “I’m quite happy for people to see my wrinkles. I’m 50-years-old, I’m supposed to have them!”
But Ruth looks far younger than her 50 years, so what’s her secret? “I watch what I eat and exercise,” she reveals. “I go to the gym and I have a trainer. I’d prefer to be sat on the sofa eating chocolate but I’m not ready to let myself go just yet.’
'Eamonn would never do a reality show'
But there is one thing Ruth would love to do to keep herself looking trim: ‘I love dancing,” she says. “I can understand people who go on shows like Strictly because it’s the best way to get fit!” So would she ever go on a reality show?
“I would consider maybe Strictly or Dancing on Ice. There’s definitely the personal challenge element to it all. I love Dancing on Ice, I’m glued! I used to skate on a Saturday morning when I was younger – all the sequins and dramas, it’s great.”
But one thing she’s certain of is that her hubby wouldn’t share the same enthusiasm; “Eamonn would never do a reality show – he would be hilarious on I'm a celebrity!
