As many fans of ITV’s This Morning have noticed, Denise Robertson has been absent from the show - presented by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield - for several weeks due to her battle with pancreatic cancer.

It has now sadly been confirmed that the 83-year-old agony aunt has lost her battle with pancreatic cancer.

The statement, which was shared on This Morning’s social feeds, read: “Such sad news- our friend and colleague Denise Robertson has lost her short but determined battle against cancer.

“Full tribute at 10.30.”

Phillip Schofield and Eamonn Holmes are amongst those who have taken to Twitter to pay their respects to the agony aunt.

The news comes just weeks after Denise announced that she had been diagnosed with the deadly disease.

She said at the time: “I'm sorry I've not been around for a couple of weeks, but a persistent health issue has turned into something quite a lot bigger.

“I’ve been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.”

She continued bravely: “It has come as a surprise to me and my family but we know many others have suffered and dealt with this condition and I don't plan to give up without a fight.

“My doctor is referring me for chemotherapy and hopefully that will start soon.

“I’d like to thank all the lovely viewers of This Morning who have been concerned about my health and I hope I'll be back on the sofa soon.”

Denise Robertson has worked on This Morning since 1988.

Our thoughts are with her husband, her son and stepsons, her eight grandchildren and her four great-grandchildren at this sad time.
