**Davina McCall has revealed she 'wanted to punish' her husband Matthew after the arrival of their first baby. **

Speaking about brining up her three children - Holly, 16, Tilly, 14 and Chester, 11 - and the toll it took on her relationship with her soon-to-be ex-husband Matthew Robertson, Davina has admitted the kids put a stain on their marriage.

She explains she would deliberately leave lights on during the night feeds and nappy changes, and push Matthew out into the spare bedroom.

“With Holly I sort of wanted to punish Matthew in some way and keep him up," Davina told Giovanna Fletcher on Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast.

"So we slept in the same bed and with the feeds I would turn the light on and change the nappy.

“You know – the bedside light, change nappy, do the feed. And think well, I am sorry if you're awake.”

Davina went on to reveal by the time the couple had their second and third babies Matthew would go and sleep in the spare room after the midnight feed.

“And that sounds selfish because it's like the guy gets to go to sleep," Davina continued, adding: "But actually my feeling was if one of us gets some sleep then they can make tea or whatever for the other one the next day.

"Also for me it was nice to turn on the telly -  I remember one night watching Happy Gilmore and doing some feeding and changing the nappy and thinking this was actually quite nice."

After years of marriage counselling at attempts to save the relationship, Davina confirmed her split from Matthew in November last year.

In a statement released at the time, the 50-year-old said: "I am very sad to say that Matthew and I have separated. Our amazing children are our number one priority, above everything else so therefore we ask for as much space and respect from the media as possible while our family goes through this difficult time."
