The 37 year-old told a UK magazine that baby Harper has just as much chance at being a footballing icon as her three big brothers Brooklyn, 14, Romeo, 10 and Cruz, 8.

Becks explained: ‘when we were living in America that was a big thing, girls playing football. The girls are very talented over there, and women’s football is big in England and Europe as well so… we’ll see.’

'My children are my life'

The proud dad added: ‘Having three boys as a footballer was a dream. And now to have a little girl who just lightens up my day every time I see or I speak to her… My children are my life.’

But David, whose 10 year-old son is already on the side of buildings as a Burberry model, insisted his children are ‘normal.’

He said: ‘They’re very grounded, they do normal things – as normal as they can, obviously, given our situation,’

‘Romeo might be on the billboards and be the Burberry model, but he’s also one of these little boys who loves going home and playing on PlayStation, or going over to the park and kicking a football around,’ he added.

The global footballing icon admitted he never anticipated ‘Brand Beckham’ would be so huge. Speaking about his famous brood, he said: ‘I don’t think of it that way, but we are.’

On his ‘partnership’ with Victoria, David said: ‘we know each other’s strengths and we help each other in all kinds of different ways. That’s what marriages are all about.’
