The 40-year-old retired footballer is currently working his way through seven matches on all seven continents – which includes the harsh and unforgiving ice covered land.

David is undertaking the challenge as part of his duties as Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, and he’s been keeping fans updated on his journey via social media.

Sharing a snap of him wrapped up in a big coat and hat, the dad-of-four wrote: “Just marked the pitch out… Anyone see the corner flag behind me ?? gam 5 Antarctica WOW no words !!!!! #loveofthegame @unicef [sic].”

He then posted a stunning photo of his arctic backdrop, adding: “Game day [sic].”

David’s journey has already seen him play games in places including Nepal, alongside children affected by the earthquake there in April.

He also visited a shantytown in Buenos Aires and played his first game in Papua New Guinea.

Speaking before his epic challenge, David said: “I remember sitting on a plane and discussing this idea with friends and never thinking it would become a reality.

“I’m genuinely excited now we can realise this ambitious idea.”
