The 40-year-old has been retired from professional football for a while now and his close friend Guy Ritchie is giving him his first big screen break.

Guy, 46, is directing the new King Arthur movie, and David is his latest recruit for the cast.

A source told The Express: “The film tells a King Arthur origin story. There’s going to be a version of the scene where Excalibur gets drawn from the stone. This is where Beckham factors in.”

IMDB lists David as an actor in the film, and it looks like they’ll be poking some fun at the former athlete.

It says: “There’s a little bit of a sense that Beckham’s character, who fancies himself a big plater in the this story, gets a little ticked off when this other fellow, this upstart, is the one who can free the sword.”

This isn’t the first time David and Guy have worked together. In 2013 David launched a new collection on body wear with H&M, and Guy directed the advert which saw him running around Beverly Hills in just his underwear.

Despite his friend’s obvious faith in him, David admitted earlier this year that he doesn’t think he’s very good at acting.

Speaking at the BAFTA Awards, he said: “I have done things over the last 15 years, but nothing of these standards. I will keep it at that I think.”
