STOP THE PRESSES.

Ok, we don't have presses on the internet, but it's the symbolism of the phrase, ok?!

Ok.

Danny Dyer has today said that he would definitely be interested in taking over the main role in Doctor Who after Peter Capaldi steps down at the end of this year.

Yep, you read that right.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Danny said: "I'd be interested in it. I could see myself in the scarf and all that. I think I could do it easy. I'd keep my accent too."

Can you IMAGINE?!

"Awight lav, the place is brimmin' over with Dar-leks. They're mugging us right off. Pass the sonic wotsit, will ya?"

This could actually be quite entertaining.

And anyway, Peter Capaldi kept his natural Scottish accent instead of conforming to the normal English like David Tennant did.

Perhaps a cockney Doctor would be a breath of fresh air?

This comes after Danny hinted at a possible EastEnders exit at the National Television Awards, saying: "Four years is a long time. It's been really rewarding but there's other stuff out there.

"I'd love to show other sides to me, I loved theatre and all that."

Capaldi, who took over from Matt Smith in 2013, is bowing out of the hit BBC One show after nearly four years on the show. He announced his decision in an interview with Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2, saying: "I feel sad. I love Doctor Who, it's a fantastic programme to work on, it's been a huge pleasure to work with a family, I can't praise the people I work with more highly."

"It's sad but wonderful. What a privilege to have done this. It's an extraordinary position to be in, but like everything you have to be aware of when it's time to move on.

"There will never be anything that's been more special to me."

At the time of the interview, he had not yet filmed his regeneration scenes, which will air in the Christmas special. His new companion will be played by Pearl Mackie.

We will wait with baited breath to see if the King of Cockney ends up in the running for the new position of Time Lord.
