After years battling drug addiction, financial issues and love life disasters, Danniella Westbrook was all set to make a triumphant return to EastEnders.

But last week her big comeback appeared to be over when it emerged that she’d been axed after filming just four episodes – something she denied on Twitter, Saying: “I had two weeks work 2 do @bbceastenders a funeral to shoot. Nothing with Peggy or Grant. I was not sacked.”

But insiders say during filming there was tension on set including when Danniella turned up with her toyboy lover George Arnold, 24.

A source says: “The cast and crew have a very particular way of working and it took Dan a while to warm up to that. She requested more air time, fluffed her lines in rehearsals, and draped all over George when she wasn’t filming.”

Insiders say the 42 year old also clashed with her co-star Natalie Cassidy. A source says: “Natalie’s not one to mince her words, and she told her to act her age.”
