Danniella Westbrook, who shot to fame as Peggy Mitchell's daughter Sam on EastEnders, has taken to Twitter after her representative confirmed the sad news that she has suffered a miscarriage.

She wrote emotionally: "@TomRichards89 thank u for just being u. Always putting me 1st & wiping my tears away x so blessed 2 call u mine x Love u Tommy xx [sic]"

Her representative told The Sun: "I can confirm she has had a miscarriage."

A source later added: "This has hit Danniella hard as she was so excited to become a mum again."

Danniella Westbrook, 40, began dating cage fighter Tom Richards shortly after splitting from her husband of 12 years, businessman Kevin Jenkins, in January this year.

They announced their pregnancy last month, just weeks after he proposed following a whirlwind romance.

She and Jenkins are parents to 12-year-old Jodie, while the former EastEnders star also has a 17-year-old son, named Kai, from a previous relationship.

Our thoughts are with Danniella at this difficult time.
