The latest series alone has seen Jake Hall and Chloe Lewis still struggling to work things out, while Danielle Armstrong and James Lock seem to have broken up for good.

Earlier this year the show was thrown into controversy when former audio tapes emerged which featured Dan Osborne threatening to stab his ex-girlfriend.

Despite the fact Dan was promptly axed from the ITVBe reality show, newcomer Pete Wicks came under fire last month when he shared a quote on Instagram which read: ‘If you tell me to relax when I’m angry, I will stab you in the neck with a knife’.

While Danielle claims to have ended her relationship with Lockie because of his temper, she insists Essex boys aren’t violent.

Speaking to new! magazine, Danielle, 27, said: “To me, it’s not like the boys are being violent, or it’s like domestic violence or anything like that.

Pete was forced to apologise after sharing a violent quote on Instagram

“God, look at Geordie Shore and The Valleys. I’ve seen people have near fights on them and nobody’s picked up on that before.

“With relationships, I think TOWIE has always shown the arguments in a little bit more depth. But I wouldn’t say it’s really violent and all the girls are in tears over being scared of their boyfriends.”

After the damming audio tapes were published by The Sun, Dan released and apology and insisted his comments were ‘heat of the moment’ and that ‘there are two sides to every story’.
