Sophia Cahill, of Torfaen, Wales, claims Bowers hit her in the face, pulled her hair and squeezed her throat, during an altercation at home.
The beauty queen added that she suffered panic attacks and insomnia after the sustained attack - that lasted up to 40 minutes.
Sentencing him at Croydon Magistrates Court, judge Andrew Sweet said the offence made him eligible for a custodial sentence, but that he would not give him one due to the long term effect on Bowers’ reputation.
Instead the judge gave him 20 weeks, suspended for 18 months - meaning that as long as he doesn’t commit another crime in that time he will not have to serve jail time.
Bowers argued that he had already suffered plenty of repeputational damage, plus loss of income, as a result of the assault charges - which he continues to deny.
But Judge Sweet agreed Bowers obviously had problems controlling his anger, and handed down the sentence in September.
The former Another Level singer admitted making contact with Miss Cahill but said that was accidental, after they started fighting when he returned home with glitter on his face.
