It has long been rumoured that Courtney Love used heroin while she was pregnant with her and Kurt Cobain's daughter Frances Bean.
In 1992, writer Lynn Hirschberg claimed the Hole rocker used the Class A drug whilst she was expecting, but representatives for both Love and Cobain vehemently denied the accusation.
A statement read: "We unequivocally deny this...
"As soon as Courtney found out she was pregnant, she immediately contacted an obstetrician and a doctor specialising in chemical dependency and has been under their care since then and has been assured that she can expect to have a healthy baby."
The accusation led to the stars temporarily losing custody of their daughter, and Courtney released an unofficial album called 'Bring Me the Head of Lynn Hirschberg".
She even blamed the writer for Cobain's suicide in 1994.
However now, nearly 23 years after the scandal first broke, Courtney has now publicly admitted that she DID use the Class A drug while she was pregnant with her daughter.
Speaking in new documentary film, Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, she said: "I used it once then stopped.
"I knew she would be fine."
Director Brett Morgen, speaking of his decision to include Courtney's dramatic confession in his film, said: "Yeah, they were junkies but they weren't hurting anyone and the article really had a huge effect on Kurt’s psyche.
"I don’t think he ever recovered from it, because they took his child away."
Kurt Cobain tragically went on to commit suicide in 1994, just two years after the heroin scandal broke.
His 22-year-old daughter Frances Bean is the executive producer of the controversial documentary, which tells the story of the Nirvana frontman's early years up until his success and downfall with the grunge group.
It also reveals the struggles Kurt had with becoming a parent.
Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck will have its TV premiere on U.S. network HBO on 4 May.
