Are things getting serious between Sophie and girlfriend Maddie?
Sophie was initially a bit cautious and just testing the water with Maddie, because she thinks that Maddie isn’t a lesbian. But then when Maddie decides she wants a relationship, things start getting a bit stronger between them. I don’t know if Maddie is a lesbian, but she decides she likes Sophie and that’s her attitude to everything – she does what she wants.
What does Sophie’s mum Sally think?
Sally has never approved. Sally wouldn’t approve of any girl to be honest. She still thinks Sophie is going to settle down with a nice man and have children. So she was never going to be keen and certainly not on Maddie – she thinks Sophie goes for the down-and-outs.
How have you found the kissing scenes?
Kissing a girl is like kissing a boy – close your eyes and hope for the best! I don’t get nervous, but Amy Kelly, who plays Maddie, has never done it before. It’s her first job and she’s only 18, so I said to her: ‘If it’s easier, I’ll kiss you.’ I’m on my fourth girlie relationship, so this is nothing to me!
You’ve been with your boyfriend (footballer Josh McEachran) for two years. Any plans to move in together?
We have talked about it, but I don’t really know what’s going to happen. He’s only at Wigan for six months, so by the time we moved in, he’d probably be moving out again. He has been looking at apartments and I have been helping him look, but I don’t know; it depends. If Josh wasn’t here I wouldn’t even think about moving out. I like living with my Mum, because she does my washing and my tea’s always made!
How do you stay in shape?
I’m really trying to get to the gym but I’m not committed. I start a new diet every Monday, but if I eat one single thing that’s not in that regime then I’m done. I was on a diet last year and I forget when I was in work and I drank coke in the Rovers. I was sitting with Sally Dynevor who plays my mum Sally and she said: ‘Well, it’s alright, because that was Sophie and not you.’ But as far as I was concerned, that was my diet out of the window.
Are you a bit of a wild child?
I’m a normal 21 year-old. I go out and have a good time with the girls, but I don’t actually think I do anything wrong. I don’t go out and get absolutely bladdered and fall out of clubs. I have been sick out of a taxi once and I was photographed doing that, but afterwards everyone said to me: ‘God, I’ve done that too.’
Are you still mates with Helen Flanagan (who played Sophie's screen sister Rosie)?
I love Helen. She’s absolutely hilarious and just doesn’t get how funny she is. Something really terrible could have happened to me and she’ll say: oh darling, that’s awful.’ And then she’ll drop her bronzer on the floor and it’ll crack and she’ll be in floods of tears! She’s so unpredictable. I’d love her to come back to Corrie one day, but she’d better put some clothes on when she does!
