Coronation Street’s Peter Baldwin has died aged 82

The much loved Coronation Street star Peter Baldwin has passed away aged 82. Peter played Derek Wilton for 21 years in the ITV soap.

Since the news was announced, tributes have poured in for the Sussex born actor who passed away at his London home after a short illness.

In a statement, ITV said: “It is with great sadness we've learned respected former Coronation Street actor Peter Baldwin has died.

Peter passed away at his home in north London last night after a short illness. We send our sincere condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.”Lovely Peter Baldwin. Such a gentle, kind, funny man and a wonderful actor and toy shop purveyor x.”

Other stars of the soap shared their memories of the actor – who first appeared on the cobbles in 1976. He was best known for his marriage to Mavis, whom he wed on screen in 1988, and was written out in 1997 when he had a heart attack following a road rage incident.

He was a brilliant actor who was loved by so many.
