Former Coronation Street actor Bruno Langley has been given a £500 fine after pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two woman at a music venue in Manchester.
The actor, who quit the soap last month after the allegations came to light, appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court yesterday and entered a guilty plea.
Langley, 34, pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual assault and was handed a sentence of a £250 fine to each of the two victims, and a 12-month community order.
Langley apparently wept in the dock as his sentence was determined, which also included submitting to a curfew and signing the sex offenders' register for five years.
The actor tried to blame his offences on the stresses of his job, as his lawyer told the court: "Something happened that night, most possibly in relation to the character he was playing."
It is thought that the comments refer to playing a gay character as a straight man.
The court heard that the "clearly intoxicated" actor grabbed a woman's crotch as she tried to get her coat.
She asked him: "Did you do that on purpose?" but the court was told he did not reply.
A friend of his then apologised to the woman, saying: "Oh my God, I'm really sorry," as the nightclub's bouncers got involved.
The victim told police that she considered hitting Langley, but she was so shocked that she didn't know what to do.
Prosecutor Karen Saffman quoted the victim's statement, reading aloud to the court: "He grabbed me. Properly grabbed me. It was a rough grab. Lots of pressure... even though it was through dress and tights."
Greater Manchester Police received a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted at the Band on the Wall music venue at around 1am on Sunday 1 October.
They then received another report from a second woman in the same venue on the same night.
