Their relationship is one of the longest standing in British showbiz, with 29-year-old Coleen having dated her footballer husband since the tender age of 16.

But their marriage has had some well documented lows, with Wayne making a public apology after he was spotted leaving a brothel in 2004, and finding himself at the centre of threesome allegations while Coleen was pregnant with their first son Kai in 2010.

Speaking about the secret to her long marriage, Coleen told MailOnline: 'There is no secret. We've had our ups and downs and it's been tough at times but we've had so many happy ones too.

'It's just about being as strong individually as we are together and that's all that can happen in a relationship. Also now that we have two kids, we make sure that we have time together. We make sure that one night a week we go out for dinner or go to the cinema or something so that we have time for each other.

'When we had Klay we found that we really had no time at all but then we made sure that we had that one day a week together.'

'We're older and a bit wiser now,' she said.

'But we've still got the same friends that go out with and we go back to the hometown where we grew up regularly.

'We've grown together and we're older but I guess now we're just fortunate to be able to do more now than we used to. Now we just love take everyone with us when we do it and share it with our friends and that's what we love about it.'

Revealing that the boys are only starting to understand their father is famous, she explained:

'He's normally only away one day a week but Wayne's away quite a lot when he's on International duties. I've got a great family behind me and Wayne's family too so we've always got people around us - we're not just on our own.'

'We do miss him and seeing the kids' faces when he comes back, they're just so overwhelmed, which is nice.'

Coleen is launching the search for McDonald’s Football Mum of the Year. The award will recognise hard-working, regular ‘football mums’ across the UK. Nominations for the awards are now open here .
