Claudia Winkleman already missed last week's live Strictly show and is set to miss this Saturday's as well, whilst she keeps a vigil by the eight-year-old's hospital bed following a tragic Halloween accident.

A source from the BBC revealed: "She can have all the time she wants. All the time in the world. Everyone is thinking of her."

Yesterday, Claudia and her husband Kris Thykier spoke out about the horrifying moment that Matilda's Halloween costume became engulfed in flames in a statement.

The distraught couple said: "Our daughter was involved in an accident on Friday night while celebrating Halloween.

“She is having the best care possible and we are hopeful of a full recovery. We would like to thank everyone that has been so supportive and particularly the NHS doctors, nurses and staff who have been absolutely incredible."

A friend of Claudia's added to The Telegraph that young Matilda was 'seriously injured' when her witch's cape burst into flames when it came into contact with a candle on Halloween.

She said: ""I only know what I have heard from my daughters, but I have heard Matilda has been seriously injured. I'm not sure exactly where it happened because they didn't see Matilda when the cape caught fire, only when the ambulance arrived. Matilda was out with another group. It is worrying."

Her young daughter added: "I saw her when the ambulance came, they had to wrap her up to put out the fire.

"She burnt her leg. They put her in a cast thing and put lots of plasters on her leg. She's going to be in hospital for a week. It was really scary."

Following the accident, Claudia and her husband have urged anyone attending fireworks parties "to be vigilant about the dangers of candles, open fires and fireworks".
