Claire Richards has been working with Save the Children, where she recently travelled to India.
After witnessing the extreme poverty, the Steps singer has revealed that she would rather help other children than have any more children herself – despite loving being a mum.
“This is an opportunity to spend time with kids and do something positive, rather than try and keep trying to expand my brood," she told The Mirror.
“If I had a baby now I wouldn’t be able to come on this trip and work with Save the Children.
"I wouldn’t have been able to come to India and meet these kids.”
The 38 year old has previously been honest about the struggle herself and husband Reece Hill have been through trying to conceive a third child.
Claire has been known for her yo-yo dieting ever since she came into the spotlight, and she previously revealed that the constant gaining and losing weight has left her infertile.
However, Claire remained positive as she told The Mirror: “I think we have both resigned ourselves to the fact we are really lucky, we have a boy and a girl and I have a stepdaughter.
“We are a strong family unit and we are happy with that, we have come to terms with the fact it’s not going to happen.
"I do believe everything happens for a reason. Maybe the fact it didn’t happen for us a third time has got me to this point.”
When visiting Kolkata, India, the mum-of-two saw how Save the Children has been helping children who are homeless, malnourished or at risk of abuse.
The children Claire met are around the same age as her son Charlie, nine and daughter Daisy, seven.
“It was very emotional to see. Those kids do remind you of your own. And, in a way, they are no different to ours,” she explained.
"Children are children, they all want to play and have fun. They want to be loved and they want to grow up and feel safe.”
And Claire also became emotional when she met Pari, 16, a girl who has been working in a brick kiln since she was 12 years old.
Claire explained that Pari really hates working there, and desperately wants to get away from it.
“Pari, carries eight bricks on her head and moves them from one place to another – she does that trip 150 times a day,” Claire revealed.
For every trip, Pari will receive one ticket – equivalent to one rupee – making her daily earnings less than £2.
After her emotional and enlightening trip, the former Steps singer is encouraging others to help fund vital Save the Children projects to help children in poverty.
Claire has been involved in the Den Day campaign, where families are encouraged to build the ultimate dens and be sponsored in the process.
