Christine Bleakley is rumoured to be replacing Holly Willoughby on This Morning when she goes on maternity leave, despite recent backlash on Twitter…
A spokeswoman for ITV’s This Morning said there was no news yet on who would stand in for Holly, but she said it was likely Christine would be back on the presenter’s sofa again.
She added: “At the moment we haven’t decided who will replace Holly. And while we have no immediate plans with Christine, I’m sure she will be back at some stage.”
On internet forums, viewers discussed the possibility that Christine could team up with Phillip during Holly’s maternity leave as she prepares for the birth of her third child.
One said: “I think Christine is as good as any other presenter on TV at the moment. I don’t like the way she and Susannah Reid have been hounded by the media. The sheep will follow and criticise.”
Christine has co-hosted This Morning on several occasions in Holly’s absence, but recently covered for Phillip Schofield as he filmed the new series of ITV's Mr & Mrs.
It made Christine and Holly the first all-female team to present This Morning - and it resulted in a bit of a backlash against the lovely Northern Irish presenter.
Twitter user Carmen Richards said: "My day off and Christine Bleakley is on ITV's This Morning are you joking? Obvs I did something terrible in a former life #ThisMorning #Vile"
Another tweeted: "Christine Bleakley is just sitting there like a vase."
And one added: "Why do these shows keep wheeling out Christine Bleakley?"
However, while some clearly weren't happy to see Christine on the show, plenty seemed to enjoy the Girl Power combo of Christine and Holly together.
One said: "Loving @hollywills and @clbleakley presenting together :-) #GirlPower"
And another added: "Dreams do come true @hollywills and @clbleakley on catch together!"
