Cheryl’s ‘deadly diet’: extreme workouts and juicing on an empty stomach

Cheryl has given some rare insight into her work out and diet regime – and it sounds HARD

She’s always been very defensive when it comes to discussing her weight and body in public, so we were rather shocked when Cheryl went into great detail last week about how she remains so slim.

The 35-year-old singer spoke openly about the gruelling exercise and juicing regime she undergoes in a bid to keep her body in shape after the birth of her son Bear over two years ago.

“I’ve been doing the Tracy Anderson method, where you work your muscles at all different angles to lean you out rather than bulk them up. You do it in 90ºC heat with humidity, which is supposed to help tone your skin,” she said.

“Obviously, it’s not that easy to get your body back after having a baby, so I’m at it nearly every day. I do the routine at home – she has a streaming system, so I can watch on the TV.

"I literally have four heaters and two humidifiers, it’s not for the faint-hearted, honestly. I am an extremist. I am one of those people who can’t do basic yoga – it’s too boring. I have to do the extreme heat where somebody can potentially die, or you feel like you’re dying. It’s quite extreme – it’s a hard method, but it works.”

Cheryl said she does the punishing regime for an hour a day, up to five times a week, as well as drinking juice on an empty stomach.

“I have been drinking celery juice recently – I found somebody on Instagram who believes that drinking celery juice on an empty stomach first thing in the morning gets rid of all the pathogens [disease-causing viruses or bacteria] and everything that is in your body,” she revealed.

“I have been trying that, but I can’t always do it, to be honest – it’s a mission getting up and juicing when you’re trying to feed a toddler at 7am.”

While Cheryl says it works for her, it has come under fire from some experts. Personal trainer Mollie Millington thinks it’s unwise to try exercising in extreme heat at home, saying, “In a studio, for Bikram yoga or another kind of hot fitness, you have knowledgeable people to help you if you are doing things unsafely.

"Turning up the radiators and trying it in your own home leaves you at risk of hurting yourself.”

Mollie adds that the supposed health benefits of celery juice are just pseudo-science. “I doubt it washed away pathogens, water would do the same,” she says.

Cheryl has always been very vocal about body shaming in the past – saying that people should never comment on what others look like, as well as shying away from talking about her own figure.

After being accused of being too thin when she returned to The X Factor back in 2014, she said, “It’s crazy double standards. You’d never be allowed to say to somebody, ‘Oh, you look a bit fat.’ And being overweight is unhealthy – it’s actually a bad message to tell someone who is obese that they look ‘curvy’ or ‘great’.”

She also called for body shaming to be made illegal, arguing, “It’s bullshit. Something has to be done, changed, even if it’s done in law.”

And last year, Cheryl claimed that she now cared less about her appearance since becoming a mum.

“My whole body, even my face, everything’s changed since Bear was born,” she said.

“But I feel like I’m better than who I was. I don’t care what my body looks like in that respect. I’m not obsessive about it. I created a life!"
