According to reports, the 32-year-old is choosing to keep the heartache to herself – but has been making regular trips from her home in North London to see family in Newcastle.
The Sun reports that Cheryl's hectic X Factor schedule, along with the long journeys to and from Newcastle, is taking its toll on her.
An insider said: "Cheryl's been going through a great deal of stress recently and has been left very upset over the matter.
"It's constantly on her mind and could be a contributing factor to her weight loss. She has chosen no to publicly address the situation but rather maintain a dignified silence and get on with things.
"She is putting on a brave face and trying to focus on work as much as she can to take her mind off things."
Hitting back at critics recently, Cheryl insisted that the sudden death of her father-in-law had a huge impact on her.
The former Girls Aloud singer was recently forced to defend herself against Twitter trolls, when one labelled her a 'bag of bones'.
