Following the departure of Dermot O’Leary, it has been confirmed by a show insider that judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini will be returning to the talent contest.
A source told The Mirror: "They haven't signed a deal yet but Simon, Cheryl and ITV are all on the same page. But that's really bad for Mel. She had a good first year but bosses want a new line-up.”
According to the insider, former judge Tulisa Contostavlos is in the running to return to the show should Mel B’s contract not be renewed.
X Factor host Dermot O’Leary announced his departure from the hugely popular Saturday night show last month after 8 years.
The 41-year-old tweeted: After eight wonderful years on @TheXFactor it's time for me to move on. I'd like to thank ITV, Simon, The X Factor family and particularly the viewers, all of whom have been a big part of my life for so long.
“I’d like to wish the team all the best for the future, especially whoever takes over from me.
“You're about to be the conductor on the most brilliant, runaway train in showbiz. Good luck you'll love it.”
