After a four-year break, Cheryl, 30, has agreed to return to the judging panel of the ITV talent show and everyone is wondering how she and 39-year-old former Spice Girl Mel will get on.
Speaking to The Sun at yesterday’s Capital Summertime Ball, Cheryl said: “I admit we are very different characters and very different people. But it works, she actually makes me laugh.”
Girls Aloud star Cheryl admitted that she’s sometimes left shocked by Mel’s comments to the contestants, and has to stop herself from laughing.
She continued: “Sometimes I have to stop myself laughing at her because it’s really rude – the contestants think I’m laughing at them.
“She’s quick and very direct. A lot of the stuff she says I couldn’t bring myself to say. But I love that – it’s a good dynamic for the panel.”
After three years judging the UK version of The X Factor, Cheryl transferred to the US show but was unceremoniously dropped from the line up, leading her to insist she would never return.
But now she has had a change of heart, the Geordie singer says it feels like she never left.
She added: “I have to admit that at first I though, ‘Oh God, what is this going to be like?’ But it really feels like I haven’t been gone.”
