It’s been ten years since Busted disbanded after Charlie Simpson decided to call it quits.

And just weeks after announcing a comeback tour and album, the 30-year-old has spoken out about why he left the band, going on to form rock band Fightstar and release solo material.

He told Kerrang! magazine: “I was close to getting depressed as you could ever get, and I was worried I might turn to drink or drugs.”

Charlie added: “It was really nothing to do with Matt and James, though,' he explained. 'It was just I had to do Fightstar.”

The dad-of-one had previously been against reforming with Busted, and the reunion has surprised even himself.

He said: “If you'd have said to me, like, three years ago that this would be happening. I wouldn't have believed you.

“They said they wanted to do Busted again. But in my head, I still thought I'd never do that again, and I was committed to doing my solo stuff. But – and this is important – we ended up having a really, really good time.”
