Perez Hilton has made more enemies than pals during his recent stint in the Celebrity Big Brother house, only managing to forge one friendship with Nadia Sawalha.

But while the housemates and the public have turned on celebrity blogger Perez, 36, for his antagonistic and often attention-seeking ways – which have included simulating sex against the furniture and stuffing cheese up his nose – his sister Barbara Lavandeira tells Closer this is not the Perez she’s used to seeing.

She tells Closer: “I’m surprised by the amount of arguments Perez has got into in the house. He’s very opinionated, but not typically argumentative.

He’s not this mean and vile individual that a few housemates keep saying he is. It’s been difficult to fully show his personality in these one-hour shows, but Perez is caring and sincere. When a friend needs him, he’ll be there.”

Perez with his son, Mario Armando Lavandeira II

Despite the fact Perez has barely discussed his son, Mario Armando Lavandeira III – who turns two next week and was born by a surrogate carrying a donor egg fertilised by his sperm – on the show, Barbara, 30, says being away from his only child has really knocked Perez.

PEREZ HILTON TO BE 'QUIZZED BY POLICE'

She reveals: “The biggest factor affecting Perez’s behaviour is that this is the longest he’s been away from his son – he’ll have missed Mario so much. Perez is a very hands-on dad. From feeding him to bath time, story time and then putting him to bed – Perez is there for it all.”
