Model and actress Cara Delevigne has opened up about her battle with depression
As one of the world's most famous models and actors, from the outside it looks as though there isn't much that Cara Delevigne can't do.
But the 25-year-old has now opened up to Porter magazine on how she has struggled with depression and alienation throughout her life.
Cara has revealed that she was taken out of school at the young age of 15 due to her mental health issues. She said: "I hated myself for being depressed. I didn't understand what was happening apart from the fact that I didn't want to be alive anymore".
She continued, "I didn't have any boobs or start my period till very late. And that whole thing of being called frigid, and being flat chested... I felt alienated and alone. Teenagers can be very cruel, I wasn't into the same things that all my popular friends were".
Although now she sports a shorter 'do, Cara explained how she would often be mocked for her short hair at school, with children telling her she looked like 'a boy'. She said "It wasn't like I was an alien - but I definitely knew there was something weird going on".
Cara has recently written her debut book, called 'Mirror, Mirror,' - the storyline of which reflects her own difficult experiences as a teenager.
The book also plays on a character that has an alcoholic parent, an experience which Cara has familiarity with due to her mum's history with drug addiction.
She said "The thing about alcoholism, addiction and depression is, you can’t hate the person for being who they are, you can hate the disease behind it". We'll be sure to be grabbing a copy.
