Candice Swanepoel has hit back at critics who shamed her for sharing a picture of her breastfeeding her son on Instagram.
The Victoria’s Secret model posted a long message on the social media site after people took issue with the image but they have no problem with her posing for topless photos.
The first-time mother welcomed baby Anacã to the world in October with her fiance Hermann Nicoli.
She says she has been made to feel uncomfortable and that she should cover up while breastfeeding.
She wrote: “Many women today are shamed for breastfeeding in public, or even kicked out of public places for feeding their children.
“I have been made to feel the need to cover up and somewhat shy to feed my baby in public places but strangely feel nothing for the topless editorials I’ve done in the name of art?
“The world has been desensitised to the sexualisation of the breast and to violence on TV… why should it be different when it comes to breastfeeding?
“Breastfeeding is not sexual, it’s natural - those who feel it is wrong to feed your child in public need to get educated on the benefits breastfeeding has on mother and child and intern on society as a whole.”
Many of her followers were quick to jump to the South African star’s defence, with one responding: “Slayyyy mom.”
Another replied: “Beautiful mummy, beautiful baby. Yes! Thank you for speaking up.”
However, another person disagreed, posting: “I’m with you and all you said but I would not do it in public because this important moment is so intimate between me and my baby.
“No strange people should be part of it. It is not shame, it is intimate.”
