The reality star, 34, who recently split from girlfriend Ianthe Rose, shared an emotional twitter post on Friday morning, reading:
‘Happy birthday dad ! Miss u everyday ! Proud to be ur son and keep ur legacy alive . Best wishes RIP #bestie. (sic)’
The football legend, who was regarded as one of the best footballers of his generation, died aged 59 after a long battle with alcoholism.
Calum’s father Best was a controversial figure however, being given a liver transplant in 2002, at public expense, but continuing to drink once getting the new liver, often being pictured at pubs in his local area.
Within three years of the transplant, George died, with him appearing on the front page of the News of the World urging others not to let their lives be destroyed by alcohol.
Calum has spoken out frequently about how his father’s death when he was only in his early twenties left him with deep-seated personal issues, which led to his own alcoholism.
The star continued to retweet messages from die-hard football fans paying tribute to his dad, including one that read: ‘Happy Birthday Geordie Best, the greatest to ever lace them up for our country (sic)’
Another twitter user commented on how similar Calum now looks to his late father - with the resemblance of their strong facial features and green eyes being striking.
