The star of Call the Midwife, New Tricks, and Doctors had a successful TV and stage career, which was sadly cut short when she passed away yesterday.

Her friend and former Coronation Street star Charlie Condou, said that her death was a massive shock, as she was 'full of life' and 'one of the most beautiful people' he had ever met.

The actor wrote: 'One of the most beautiful people I've known. A 20 year friendship I'll treasure forever. I love you Clare Cathcart.'

Call the Midwife co-star Miranda Hart tweeted: 'Reeling from closer to home news of Clare Cathcart. Had the privilege of some serious laughing with her on call the midwife. A ball of joy.'

Tamzin Outhwaite tweeted: 'RIP Clare Cathcart. Funny, talented, kind & Far too soon.'

Other soap actors also mourned the loss of their funny friend, with Brookside cast member Michael Starke saying Clare was 'one in a million.'
