Remember when Sunnydale ruled the primetime slot and everyone secretly wanted to be, or be with, a demon of the night?
Buffy was the undisputed queen of TV in the 90s, but now it’s over 15 years since the last episode aired, we want to know what the Scooby gang are up to now.
And, more importantly, how different their hair looks.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Where are they now?
Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) then and now
Guys wanted her, girls wanted to be her, pretty much every vampire wanted to kill her, Buffy taught girls that they could be heroes. When Buffy ended in 2003 after a whopping nine seasons, Sarah married fellow 90s teen icon Freddie Prinze Jnr and starred in such films as The Grudge and Southland Tales before doing a fair bit of voiceover work for the animated series of Star Wars. From 2015, it seemed like SMG was taking a break from acting to focus on her company 'Foodstirs', selling baking kits for children – and also to focus on her two kids.
Willow (Alyson Hannigan) then and now
Stuttery, sweet, magical Willow may have struggled to remember or make any form of joke – but Alyson, now 42, ended up forging a successful career in comedy.First came the unforgettable 'This one time, at Band Camp' American Pie part, which led onto one of the regulars in smash hit comedy series How I Met Your Mother leaving Alyson time for little else.Once that ended, though, the star bagged a presenting job on the magical reality show Penn and Teller: Fool Us which just got renewed for a third series – so watch out for that.In terms of mini-Alysons, she's got two with husband Alexis Denisof. They tied the knot in 2003, the same year as Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jnr; good to know both couples are still going strong!
Angel (David Boreanaz) then and now
The definition of a VILF, Angel turned Buffy into a woman and, let's be frank, most of us too.But what happened post-Buffy? Well, Angel was a surprisingly successful spinoff show that ran for five seasons until 2004 (including that excellent joint episode for the super-fans) and then David went on to bag the co-lead part in Bones just one year later. The 47 year old now produces the show, and has done since the third season, and co-runs a nail varnish line with his wife Jaime Bergman and their friends Melissa and Aaron Ravo. Yep, it's called Chrome Girl and the two wives run the day-to-day operations, their husbands help with the business side.Didn't expect that from Angel now did you? Oh, and he still has the same hair.
Giles (Anthony Head) then and now
Already a well established actor across theatre and TV by the time he got the part as the charming librarian Giles, Anthony left the show in its sixth season as he'd moved to the US and realised he was spending too much time away from his family.Since then, he starred as the Prime Minister in Little Britain (which was the absolute best), appeared regularly in Monarch of the Glen and released an album called 'Music For Elevators'.He also appeared as a series regular in Merlin and has done a load of radio work on various different programmes including Bleak Expectations and Cabin Pressure. Now 64 years old, Anthony is also a huge dog fan, regularly campaigning for animal charities. Cute.
Spike (James Marsters) then and now
After leaving Buffy, Spike (or rather, James) joined Angel where he continued to do a slightly questionable English accent.Actually American, he went on to star in the movie P.S. I Love You as well as the Superman prequel TV series Smallville (remember that?!).Aside from acting, though, the ex-bleached vamp (who is now 55) is also a musician and currently busy with his newly reformed band Ghost of the Robot who were big in the early 00s over in America.A lot of the songs back in 2003-04 were actually about Buffy characters, but the latest album 'Murphy's Law' (available on iTunes!) has branched out a bit…
Oz (Seth Green) then and now
The werewolf/Willow's boyfriend in the earlier seasons, Seth Green is probably one of the only cast members who isn't known for his part in Buffy. The 42 year-old is probably known better for either the Austin Powers series, where he played Dr. Evil's long suffering rebel son or, more likely, as the voice of Chris in Family Guy.He's also the co-creator, co-producer, writer director and most regular voice on the Emmy award-winning TV series Robot Chicken. Try saying that four times.
Xander (Nicholas Brenon) then and now
Post-Buffy, Nicolas has done all sorts. He's starred in Criminal Minds as a series regular, done a couple of plays, is working on the Buffy comic book series and made a successful web comic called Very Bad Koalas which is, unsurprisingly, about two koalas. He actually started acting to overcome his stutter (it totally crippled his confidence when he was younger), so has also does a lot of work for the Stuttering Foundation of America. He was even its chairperson three years running in the early 00s.You might have caught the odd news story involving Nicholas and alcohol, drink-driving and other misdemeanours– he announced back in 2006 he was going to rehab for alcoholism and has struggled with it ever since.
Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) then and now
Yes, that is her real name. And no, she isn't a carpenter. In terms of her post-Buffy CV, may have spotted her in The Expendables film series where she played Lacy – and she also popped up in Veronica Mars between 2005 and 2006.Since then, the 47 year old has been a regular in ABC's The Lying Game and is a real campaigner for animal rights, always tweeting out various save the animals projects.Good on you, Charisma!
