The 86-year-old said: 'I know I'm on borrowed time, how I'm still here I just don't know.'

But he revealed he doesn't dwell on his own mortality, stating: 'The day will come and it could be tomorrow, who knows?'

The veteran presenter, who is currently fronts Strictly Come Dancing with Tess Daly, had to take a break in October due to being struck down with the flu, but is determined to stay around as long as people want him.

'When the time is up I'll be ready for it. I probably won't be very happy about it. But I'll know it's time to go.'

Bruce began his career on the stage at the London Palladium, before going onto front The Generation Game, Play Your Cards Right and The Price is Right.

'I probably won't be very happy about it. But I'll know it's time to go.'

The star revealed that there is a new clause in his Strictly contact, which allows him to take some extra time off when he needs it.

50 years…we feel tired just thinking about it!
