She called out her “abusive” family in court last year, and Britney Spears’ latest feud with her younger sister Jamie Lynn has reached fever pitch in recent weeks.

However, despite a series of fiery social media messages between them, insiders insist Jamie Lynn is desperate to make amends as she believes they are both “victims” who have been treated unfairly by their family.

Britney, 40, launched scathing verbal attacks on social media against her sister as the 30 year old promotes her memoir, Things I Should Have Said – in which she makes shock allegations about Britney, including how she once locked her in a room while brandishing a knife.

Britney strongly refutes the claims and during a series of Instagram rants last week, labelled Jamie Lynn a “selfish brat”, insisting she should have “slapped” her and their mum, Lynne, 66, after they were unsupportive following her split from Justin Timberlake in 2002.

But in an emotional twist, Jamie Lynn, 30, opened up about her home life as a young adult which seemingly echoed some elements of her sister’s 13-year plight under her controversial conservatorship, set by their dad, Jamie, 69, which was lifted last November.

Discussing restrictions placed on her while pregnant with her first child Maddie, now 10, Jamie Lynn said in a podcast, “Home felt like a prison without a smartphone or connection to the outside world... My team believed everyone outside of the inner circle was a potential threat.”

She also discussed how she threatened her parents – now divorced – with legal action to escape their control after they “monitored” her moves such as seeing her then-boyfriend. She added, “[I] was locked away like a princess [too]… My family denied my attempts to be independent and left me with no other choice than to threaten to file for emancipation with the courts.”

Fans pointed out that, despite the sisters’ feuding, they’d both seemingly experienced similar home lives, with one posting online, “Their parents seemed to control both of them, it’s so sad, poor girls.”

Britney sparked shockwaves in June when she told a court hearing about the control exerted over her after she was placed under her dad’s guardianship following her tragic 2007 breakdown.

She claimed she’d been drugged, lost control of her finances and was forbidden from having her IUD contraceptive device removed, despite longing to have a baby with her fiancé, Sam Asghari, 27.

Her former staff also spoke out, with one ex-security guard claiming her father hired a team to bug her house, including her bedroom, when she was with a former boyfriend.

Last week, Jamie was in court accused of “potentially criminal conduct” over the claims, which he denies. He’s insisted he had his daughter’s “best intentions” during the guardianship. During the hearing – set to legally wrap it up – he also requested to unseal his daughter’s private medical records, arguing it would give context to his decisions while acting as conservator. The judge dismissed this, citing the star has a “right to privacy.” But while Jamie Lynn’s bombshell allegations have continued to rile Britney, insiders say that, ironically, she’d penned her book hoping it would heal their rift.

A source says, “Jamie wanted the world to know that Britney wasn’t the only victim and thought that by opening up about her trauma, it would help reconnect them by enabling them to support one another.

“Jamie Lynn was convinced Britney would soften once she read they’d had similar traumatic experiences.”

Growing up, the sisters shared a close bond despite their 10-year age gap – with Britney helping wannabe child star Jamie Lynn land her first acting gig in 2002 movie, Crossroads, penning the theme song to her first sitcom role on Zoey 101 and recording a duet with her on the album, Britney Jean.

But during Britney’s battle against her conservatorship, she called out Jamie Lynn for seemingly cashing in on her fame by performing her songs.

At the time, Jamie Lynn offered an olive branch –insisting she “only loved, adored and supported” her sister.

And despite continuing to lash out last week, the superstar – who shares sons Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15, with her ex, Kevin Federline – did appear to soften during one message to her sister which read, “All I know is I love you unconditionally! So go ahead and say whatever you want … it’s so tacky for a family to fight publicly like this!!!”

And insiders say that message could signal the start of a truce following a series of heart-to-hearts with Sam.

The source adds, “Britney is devastated about losing her relationship with her sister who had always been the one person in the world she relied on most.

“After already losing so many people in her life, she knows deep down that if she loses Jamie for good, she’ll have no family left.

“Sam has encouraged her to make amends – he’s so close to his three sisters that he understands how much this is hurting Britney. He’s even suggested using a mediator not only for their sakes but for their children’s sakes too, given they miss their aunts and cousins.”

Emma: ‘Jamie Lynn needs to accept responsibility’

Closer’s psychological therapist Emma Kenny explains why Britney is lashing out, and how the sisters can sort their differences.

Emma says, “It’s clear Britney feels more than ever that Jamie Lynn let her down because even if her sister didn’t agree with the conservatorship, she failed to step in on the aspects that were unfair.

“Ultimately, I think she feels very much used financially by her family, and Jamie Lynn is continuing to make money off her name by releasing her book.

“Now she’s got her freedom, Britney feels that she wants to punish those who she sees as having harmed her. But what Jamie Lynn is trying to tell her is that she suffered, too.

“In time, after Britney has vented her anger, it would be good for Jamie Lynn to reach out to her and acknowledge the part she played in Britney’s past – even if that was just not saying things that needed to be said at the right times – and then fully take responsibility for that.

“There has been a huge amount of dysfunction in the Spears family and that will take time to heal. A lot of apologies need to be made but hopefully, in time, Britney and Jamie Lynn will realise they are on the same team and need each other’s love and support.”
