Speaking to a UK newspaper, Adnan revealed Britney’s heartbreaking reaction to losing custody of her two sons Sean and Jayden James.
He said: “Christmas day 2007 was the most heartbreaking thing I had ever seen. Britney was drowning in despair, fighting for breath, feeling her life was slipping away.
“She couldn’t see her kids and wanted cheering up. So we drove from her Beverly Hills home to her rented mansion in Malibu to get away from the city.
“But when we went into the living room the sight of the Christmas tree and gifts for the boys just broke her. She couldn’t stop sobbing.
During her infamous breakdown, Britney shaved her head, attack paparazzi with an umbrella and had to go to rehab.
After former bodyguard Tony Baretto told US Child Protection services that Britney was took drugs and drank alcohol around her kids, she lost custody of them.
Adnan said: “She felt she was being punished being away from her children. She told me, ‘If I cannot see the boys, I have no reason to live.’
“Everyday was unpredictable. She would switch from being happy to sinking into deep depressions. On the days the boys visited she would be happy, smiling and singing in the house.
“It was her ritual to clean their rooms and get out their toys even though the maid had done it. Sometimes just before a visit she got a call saying it was off, with little explanation. That would send her over the edge again.
“She would run to her bedroom, slam the door and refuse to come out all day – not eating or drinking. She would call out the boys’ names as she lay on the bed crying for hours.”
Sean and Jayden James now live with Britney again, along with her new man David Lucado.
