Emmerdale

Last night, soap stars across the board turned up to one of the most glamorous and hotly anticipated events of the year, the British Soap Awards.

And it was undoubtedly a night to remember for Emmerdale who won the coveted Best Soap award for the first time in the show’s history. The award usually goes between EastEnders and Coronation Street, so this year’s win was a huge moment for the show.

While all the soap stars walked the red carpet without a hint of nerves, Danny Dyer arrived with on-screen wife Kellie Bright and admitted that he was anxious about his third nomination in the Best Actor category.

“If I don’t win I’ll be gutted,” he said. “Everyone will say they’ll be fine with it, but I will be really upset and I will sob me heart out.”

Unfortunately for Danny Dyer, Emmerdale once more beat EastEnders to it with Danny Miller collecting the award for Best Actor, as well as Best Male Dramatic Performance for his role as Aaron Dingle (Livesy).

Lacey Turner also had a successful night. She picked up the Best Actress and Best Female Dramatic Performance gongs for her portrayal of Stacey Slater in EastEnders, and her depiction of postpartum psychosis won her the Best Storyline award.

The event saw Coronation Street couple, Alan Halsall and Lucy-Jo Hudson, appearing together publically for the first time since their split in March, confirming that the pair have reunited.
