Tulisa goes free as drugs trial ‘collapses’ at Southwark Crown Court

Tulisa Contostavlos has been cleared of her drugs charges and walked free after the trial was 'thrown out of court' earlier today

Tulisa Contostavlos was "grinning in the dock" today as her drug charges were thrown out of court, it has been reported.

The judge told the jury: "There are strong ground for believing Mr Mahmood told me lies."

Journalist Chris Mason, who was present at the trial, revealed on Twitter: "Tulisa Contostavlos's trial for drugs allegations has collapsed at Southwark Crown Court."

Sara Lee added: "Tulisa case thrown out of court and Maz Mahmood could face perjury charge #Tulisa #karma"

Southwark Crown Court originally heard how Tulisa met Mr Mahmood in top hotels in Las Vegas and Mayfair when he posed as a wealthy movie maker named Samir Khan.

He had told the singer's agent he could get her to Hollywood and that she could star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in a 'big production'.

"It is clear the defendant was very keen to break into films and she and her manager swallowed the story completely," said prosecutor Timothy Cray.

"She was told that she would be more suitable for the film than Keira Knightley or Kate Winslet."

The former X Factor judge allegedly promised the reporter 'white sweets' once he returned from the Cannes film festival, texting him: 'Let me know wen u land so I can sort u out! Love Tulisa xxx'.

Tulisa denied brokering the deal, which was exposed in the Sun on Sunday newspaper last June.

Judge Alistair McCreath told the jury that the case "cannot go any further" because there were "strong grounds to believe" that Mr Mahmood had "lied" at a hearing before the trial started.

We are waiting to hear from Tulisa following the favourable outcome of her trial.
