The film will feature the Steubenville trial, which saw two high school football players being found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl.

They also documented the incident on social media with videos and pictures.

The case garnered international attention after the New York Times featured an article on the case and claims of a cover up were made.

The film will follow the influence of hackers collective Anonymous and how they exposed evidence.

The evidence showed there to be efforts to cover up details of the case in order to protect the footballer players and the high school’s football program.

The two students convicted of the rapes, Trent Mays and Ma’lik Richmond, were sentenced to serve time in a juvenile detention centre.

Mays was ordered to serve more time due to an extra charge of dissemination of child pornography, the charge being added due to the victim being under age.

Richmond was released from juvenile detention earlier this year but the sentencing of adults who attempted to cover up the case is still on going, with one high profile defendant facing up to 5 years in jail.

Brad Pitt is no stranger to intense subject matter when it comes to producing films, having produced Academy Award winning movie 12 Years A Slave, which followed the real life story of an African American man forced into slavery.
