The ‘Blurred Lines’ singer revealed the sad news to fan through a statement published by an American gossip magazine.
It read in People: ‘We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.’
The couple met when they were teenagers and married in 2005.
The 36-year-old singer and 38-year-old Paula are also parents to 3-year-old son Julian Fuego.
Though Robin has recently seen his star rise rapidly through the release of last year’s ‘Blurred Lines,’ ex-wife Paula is also successful in her own right, starring in Mission Impossible- Ghost Protocol alongside Tom Cruise.
The split comes amid rumours surrounding Robin’s fidelity. According to numerous news sources, the singer reportedly looked cosy with a pretty young woman at a VMA’s party last year.
This was following his now infamous VMAs performance with Miley Cyrus, which saw the 21-year-old ‘twerking’ for him.
Though the split still comes as a surprise for many fans due to Robin coming across as no less than completely enamoured with his wife.
He previously said in an interview: ‘I knew she was special the night I met her. I was only 14, but she was already the most special girl.’
He continued: ‘As a relationship progresses, you fall in love again in so many deeper ways. You realize that you need each other and you can’t live without each other.’
